Xtremsplit Editor's Review

Xtremsplit is a software tool for splitting a large file into smaller parts and for re-joining already split files into a whole. The program is very small – just less than 300kb - and needs no separate installation process.  The interface is rather snazzy, easy to use and intuitive, but non-French speakers may find it difficult to get help or additional information because this is a native French application . A file can be selected for splitting using drag and drop and is split within a couple of mouse clicks. You can stop and restart the process if you need and decide how many parts your file should be split into or what the maximum size should be for the parts.

Xtremsplit creates the MD5 digital signatures required for monitoring the integrity of the files being glued together. It is compatible with dozens of other splitting tools, including Cutkiller, HJSplit, FileSpliter, so the split and re-bonding could be done by different tools. The Xtremsplit-SFX will create self-extracting parts providing the recipient with the software.
The software is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, XP and Linux (using Wine).

Pro's: It does the job, is easy to use and will handle files over 4GB, free;

Con's: It would be nice to see background documentation in English, but given its intuitiveness, this is only necessary if the authors want to reach a larger user-base.

Conclusion: We can see many applications for such a useful tool, especially since it is very flexible around the sizing or number of split parts and is reliable.
